Un grupo de estudiantes de entre 17 y 18 años de la Escuela Técnica N°7 Taller Regional Quilmes, más conocida como IMPA, realizaron la restauración de la aeronave Aero Commander 501 que formó parte del escuadrón civil de aviación “Fénix” durante la Guerra de Malvinas en 1982, en el marco del cuadragésimo aniversario de la contienda.
Entre motores y viejas aeronaves que supieron alguna vez lucir con orgullo el pabellón argentino, el “Proyecto Aerocommander” comenzó a ver la luz. En diálogo con AUNO, el director de la Técnica N°7, Pablo Juárez, contó sobre el inicio del proyectos: “Nosotros ya veníamos gestionando la llegada del avión y los chicos lo vieron y dijeron ‘nosotros nos hacemos cargo’, y arrancaron. Realmente no hubo forma de pararlos”.
Catorce pibes se pusieron de acuerdo para restaurar un pedacito de historia, o mejor dicho, para empezar a hacerla. Lucas Ibarrola, uno de los miembros del equipo, habló con esta agencia sobre los desafíos que significó encarar el proyecto. “Al principio éramos tres, empezamos a buscar gente y terminamos siendo 14. Teníamos otro proyecto, pero vimos que llegó el avión y dijimos ‘es perfecto para nosotros’”, remarcó.
Vestidos con sus inconfundibles overoles azules, el trabajo no se detuvo un minuto. Los miembros del equipo subían y bajaban constantemente de estructuras metálicas heridas por el tiempo. El desafío era enorme: poner en condiciones de vuelo, con lo que sabían, y en tan solo ocho meses, a un avión que había llegado sin panza.
Orgullo es la palabra que más se repite cuando los chicos hablan sobre la emoción que les genera su hazaña. Así lo describió Lucas durante una visita al taller: “A mí me genera un orgullo enorme participar de este proyecto, porque quiero ser piloto de combate y trabajar en algo que formó parte de la Fuerza Aérea y que encima estuvo en Malvinas, es un montón”.
“Lo único que nos llevamos de esto es la experiencia, la felicidad del trabajo en equipo, las amistades que se formaron. Este proyecto nos deja una gran amistad”, resaltó Agustín Bardín, otro de los miembros del equipo, encargado de la parte de sistemas del proyecto.
Es que no se trata de un proyecto más. En el marco del 40° aniversario de la Guerra de Malvinas, este trabajo cobra para los chicos una importancia adicional: se trata de restaurar una nave que transportó pilotos y equipos durante el conflicto. “Toda la historia que está detrás del avión es increíble, una locura. Poder trabajar en un proyecto de esta magnitud, nos llena de emoción”, afirmó Agustín.
Aunque el Aerocommander ya no vuelva a entrar en servicio, continuará dejando sus marcas. “Este proyecto nos deja algo bien claro: saber que no nos equivocamos en lo que estudiamos. Estar contentos y decir: ‘No nos equivocamos de profesión’, aseguró Lucas.
El apoyo docente fue la clave detrás de tantas horas de trabajo entre motores y máquinas. Así también lo entiende Jorge Frontini, uno de los docentes coordinadores de este proyecto, al señalar: “Me genera mucho orgullo esto. La cooperadora del colegio, la Fuerza Aérea y también los mismos padres, algunos que ni siquiera forman parte del proyecto, absolutamente todos, nos hemos comprometido a ayudar”.
El Aerocommander se transformó en mucho más que una propuesta desafiante de un grupo de alumnos del último año. El proyecto trascendió a estudiantes, docentes y finalmente, a la comunidad educativa. A pesar de que ya no vuelva a atravesar los cielos, el Proyecto Aerocommander seguirá ahí.

El Aerocommander 501 fue un avión fabricado durante los años 40′ y llegó a nuestro país durante la década del 60′. Fue parte del escuadrón Fénix, una unidad civil aérea que realizaba distintas misiones durante la guerra de Malvinas en 1982.
Luego del conflicto, el avión prestó servicio en la Fuerza Aérea Argentina hasta 2018, año en el que sufrió un accidente que le impidió continuar con sus tareas. Finalmente, fue donado por la Fuerza Aérea como material didáctico durante el 2021.
